About the Basic M2A
The Kenwood Basic M2A is a stereo power amplifier manufactured between 1985 and 1990. It delivers 220 watts per channel into 8 ohms with a total harmonic distortion of only 0.004%, covering a frequency response from 1Hz to 300kHz. It features a very high damping factor of 1000, which provides tight bass control. The amplifier has a robust build with dimensions of 440 x 158 x 373 mm and weighs 15.5 kg. It includes channel-separated level control, a power meter with peak hold, and a headphone jack. The design uses separate power supplies for each stereo channel to reduce noise and cross-talk. It is known for a tonally rich and slightly dark sound signature, suitable for easy entertainment rather than analytical listening. The unit does not have a remote control and consumes 500 watts of power. Originally priced around 1,500 DM, it remains a respected amplifier for its performance and build quality.
