About the Focus Field Designer
The Kenleigh Focus Field Designer Series speakers, also known as Focused Field Monitors (FFM), are passive studio monitors originally produced by Kenleigh Hall's company in San Diego, established in 1959. These monitors have a distinctive horizontal design intended for use as front/main monitors in professional control rooms or studios. They feature an 8-inch French Polydax HD20B25VHV woofer with approximately 7.2 ohms resistance and an unmarked ribbon horn tweeter measuring about 4 1/4 inches wide by 3 inches tall. The speakers are designed with left and right designations, with ribbon tweeters positioned on the outside of the sound field to enhance stereo imaging. The crossover network includes poly capacitors and resistors to manage the tweeter signal. The speakers are noted for their clarity and detailed midrange and top end, although some users have reported a somewhat muddy sound without proper servicing. Kenleigh speakers are custom-built with a focus on room acoustics and placement, and they are relatively rare and not mass-produced. The brand is known for high efficiency (around 91 dB) and clear bass response, with a reputation for excellent sound quality despite limited marketing and availability.
