About the Reference Model Two

The KEF Reference Model Two is a high-performance three-way floorstanding loudspeaker system manufactured in England around 2000-2001. It features a Twin Coupled Cavity (TCC) bass system with two 160 mm (6.5 inch) bass drivers mounted back-to-back inside the cabinet to deliver powerful and precise low-frequency response. The midrange and tweeter are combined in KEF's unique Uni-Q coaxial driver, which houses a 160 mm midrange cone and a 25 mm (1 inch) soft dome tweeter positioned to create a single point sound source for improved imaging and directivity. The speakers have a nominal impedance of 4 ohms, sensitivity of 90 dB at 2.83 V/1 m, and a frequency response from 43 Hz to 20 kHz. The crossover frequencies are at 160 Hz and 2400 Hz. The cabinet measures approximately 1012 x 230 x 300 mm (39.8 x 9 x 11.8 inches) and weighs about 29.6 kg (65 lbs). The design includes a force-cancelling aluminum rod joining the two bass driver magnet sections to reduce resonance and improve sound quality. These speakers require an amplifier power of 50 to 200 watts and are known for their smooth soundstage, good depth, and imaging. They come in finishes such as Black Ash, Cherry, and Rosenut. Original packaging and manuals are often included with used units.
