About the Studio Reference
The JENA Labs Studio Reference speakers are designed for high fidelity audio reproduction, developed to work optimally with a range of amplifiers including 15 watt and 30 watt push-pull tube amps, 300 watt FET amps, 250 watt bipolar amps, and OTLs from 60 watt to 240 watt capacity. They feature a true aluminum ribbon high frequency unit with capacitorless electronic damping to control impedance and electrical ringing of the tweeter's internal step down transformer. The mid-woofers are twin ceramic hemispherical cones treated with a proprietary anti-ringing coating and also utilize capacitorless electronic damping to control excess bass ringing and rising impedance of the voice coils, with frame damping using Vibra-Putty. The crossover components include a Jantzen Cross-Coil inductor immersion LN2 treated, Auri-Teflon high frequency filter capacitors wrapped with Silent Running Audio 'SRA blue damping sheet' and Iso-felt, and optional Dueland/Jantzen CAST capacitors on special order. Bass compensation inductors are from Erse 'Super Q' series with low DC resistance and high current capability. The speakers use Cardas binding posts with options for traditional nut-on-post or patented compression bar design, and tweeter level adjustment via an L-Pad or two-position switch. Internal wiring is multi-stranded JENA LABS Ultra-Wire 18G, fully immersion cryo processed, with all joints soldered using Cardas Quad Eutectic solder and treated with JENA Connect contact fluid. The crossover plate is custom-made stainless steel with bead blast satin finish and damped with SRA blue damping sheet. The speakers have solid maple cabinets, stained red in early prototypes, and feature solid stainless steel handles for ease of placement. Nominal impedance is higher than 8 ohms in low and mid bands, nominal 8 ohms over 4kHz, making them friendly to OTL and transformer tube amps as well as bipolar and FET based power amps.
