About the TS-550L
The Jelco TS-550L is a 12-inch (303mm effective length) S-shaped tonearm that is statically balanced and features oil damping for smooth tracking. It supports a pickup/headshell weight range of 17-35 grams and has an overhang of 13mm. The arm includes height adjustment from 38 to 60mm and anti-skating control. It has a removable headshell with a high-strength SME screw cap and uses original Jelco internal wiring with a DIN coupling. The TS-550L is a refined successor to the SA-750 series, offering improved mounting collar stability and a single counterweight with a sliding outer concentric weight for a wide cartridge weight range. It is highly regarded for its build quality, versatility, and sound performance, including better dynamic contrast and soundstage precision when paired with aftermarket counterweights. The tonearm is no longer in production but remains popular among audiophiles for its excellent tracking and tonal qualities.
