About the 76 Line Stage
The JE Labs 76 Line Stage is a high-quality tube line stage preamplifier inspired by Bruce Berman's design and refined by JE Labs. It uses the vintage 76 tube as the gain stage and a 6SN7 as a cathode follower output stage, delivering a natural, transparent sound with rich timbre. The design incorporates measures to reduce microphonics, such as moveable and independent extend plates and dampers for the 76 tube. The power supply uses a 5U4G rectifier tube. The preamplifier is noted for its very low noise and zero hum operation. It features four RCA inputs and two RCA outputs, with a gain of approximately 18 dB and a frequency response from 10 Hz to 80 kHz. The JE Labs 76 Line Stage is praised for its open, clear sound with good dynamics, harmonic richness, and low-level detail. The design includes elevated heater supply voltage to protect tube ratings and uses quality components such as plate choke loading for improved detail and resolution. Dimensions and weights are approximately 15.3" W x 6.3" H x 11.8" D for the preamp and 15.3" W x 7.9" H x 11.8" D for the PSU, with weights of 25 lbs and 44 lbs respectively. The unit is a niche, enthusiast-grade product with no known current retail price and no indication of being discontinued.
