About the ZEN 130
The JansZen ZEN 130 is a push-pull electrostatic loudspeaker comprising four electrostatic radiators per channel, with a total radiating area of approximately 130 square inches. It was designed by Arthur Janszen, a pioneer in electrostatic speaker technology, and typically paired with high-quality woofers such as those in the Acoustic Research AR-1 W subwoofer-satellite system. The speaker operates over a wide frequency range, with a frequency response extending from about 500 Hz to 130,000 Hz, delivering exceptional clarity and transparency in the midrange and treble. The design includes transformer taps for 8 and 16 ohm impedances to match tube amplifier outputs, and the speakers are known for their natural, immediate sound with minimal coloration due to controlled damping of the electrostatic panels. The ZEN 130 was originally introduced in the 1950s and remains a highly regarded vintage electrostatic speaker, often restored and maintained by enthusiasts. Dimensions are approximately 55 x 18.5 x 31 cm per speaker, typically finished in walnut veneer. The speakers are no longer in production but are prized for their historical significance and sound quality.
