About the MC1B II
The MC1B Mk II is a statement high-output moving coil cartridge (.6 to 0.7 mV output) handcrafted by Jan Allaerts in Belgium. It features a boron cantilever equipped with a Geyger special polished diamond tip and hand-wound coils on a 2mm x 2mm soft iron square. The cartridge housing is made of solid brass with a 0.3mm thin brass cover coated with 24ct gold foil acting as a Faraday cage. It has a compliance of 12 cu, suitable for medium-heavy tonearms, and an internal coil resistance of approximately 22 Ohms. The cartridge is praised for its wide frequency response, full frequency range top to bottom, and a unique blend of musicality and technical performance. It typically lasts between 7000-10000 hours, with retipping options available. The MC1B Mk II is considered one of the finest sounding cartridges ever produced, often paired with high-quality tonearms such as those from Simon Yorke, Frank Schröder, or SME Series V. It requires careful setup and break-in for optimal performance.
