About the Bass Optimizer

The Hsu Research Bass Optimizer is an external analog equalizer intended for Hsu Research’s older passive TN-series cylindrical subwoofers, including the TN1220HO and TN1225HO, when used with a separate power amplifier. It provides subwoofer level adjustment, selectable bass equalization, stereo/mono operation, and an infrasonic filter. Hsu Research states that it is not intended for the VTF-TN1 and is generally unnecessary with the company’s current powered subwoofers. A compatible TN-series installation requires an amplifier rated at 200 watts into 4 ohms and a low-pass crossover elsewhere in the signal chain, such as in a receiver or pre/pro. The product remains listed by Hsu Research as an accessory, although its intended application is limited to older passive subwoofer systems.
