The Heathkit AD-1702 is an active low-level crossover ideal for integrating subwoofers into any stereo playback system. It is fed from a preamplifier and provides separate outputs for high and low speakers. The unit allows independent adjustment of crossover frequency and slope for both the high-pass and low-pass sections, enabling precise acoustic response tuning. For example, it can be set to complement sealed-box speakers by matching the crossover slopes to achieve a combined acoustic response of 18 dB/octave. It is designed for stereo subwoofers, preserving stereo bass fidelity in music and movies. The crossover features frequency response from 10 Hz to 20 kHz with minimal distortion and a maximum output level of 5.0 V at 0.1% THD. Users should be aware that some used units may have modified parts affecting crossover frequencies, which can be corrected by restoring original capacitor values.
