About the ST7
The Harman Kardon ST-7 is a 2-speed (33 and 45 rpm) belt-drive turntable introduced in the mid-1970s, featuring a precision ground belt drive and a brushless DC motor with Hall effect. It is notable for its linear tracking tonearm with zero tracking error, zero vertical and lateral friction, and a low effective tonearm mass of 6 grams. The platter weighs 1.1 kg and the turntable offers low rumble (-68 dB) and wow and flutter of 0.04% (NAB weighted). The design is elegant and minimalist with a brushed aluminum plinth and touch controls, measuring 419 x 157 x 413 mm and weighing 10 kg. It includes features such as an end-of-record lift function and a recessed stroboscope for speed adjustment. The ST-7 is praised for its smooth, clean sound and impressive stereo soundstage, though it is mechanically complex and requires careful maintenance and adjustment. It was manufactured around 1975-1976 and is no longer in production.
