About the Citation 7.1
The Harman/Kardon Citation 7.1 is a high current, multichannel audio power amplifier designed and manufactured in the USA. It is configurable for four, three, or two-channel output, providing audiophile quality in all configurations. The amplifier is THX certified, meeting or exceeding THX standards for sonic performance and compatibility with other THX certified components. It features a fully complementary circuitry from input to output, with each channel having six separate power supplies and a shared 2.2 kW toroidal power transformer. The amplifier delivers 450 watts per channel into 8 ohms in stereo mode, and 150 watts per channel into 8 ohms when driving four channels. It has an ultrawide bandwidth design with a frequency response from 3 Hz to 200 kHz, and total harmonic distortion of less than 0.03% at rated output. The Citation 7.1 uses low negative feedback to reduce distortion and improve sonic quality, and includes oversize heat sinks for fan-free convection cooling, ensuring quiet operation and high reliability. Input sensitivity is 1.1 volts with an input impedance of 22k ohms. The amplifier weighs 34 kg and measures 191 x 456 x 445 mm. It requires 120/230 VAC power and consumes up to 2500 watts maximum. The design was led by Steve Mantz, featuring 10 Toshiba 20 MHz output devices per channel and a flat frequency response extending to about 270 kHz. The Citation 7.1 is no longer in production but remains highly regarded for its clean, extended frequency response and powerful, accurate sound reproduction.
