About the Citation 12
The Harman Kardon Citation Twelve, also known as Citation 12, is a classic solid-state stereophonic power amplifier introduced in 1976 as Harman Kardon's first major transistorized power amp. Based on an RCA Solid State Handbook design, it features a dual-mono configuration with separate power transformers, bridge rectifiers, and filter capacitors for each channel, ensuring excellent regulation and stability. It employs a differential input stage, quasi-complementary output with two NPN transistors per channel, large heatsinks, and thermal cut-outs, but lacks DC fault protection. Highly regarded by audiophiles and praised by designer Nelson Pass, it offers dynamic sound with effortless transient handling. Commonly available used, often requiring restoration like capacitor replacements due to age.
