About the Clarinet
The Hagerman Clarinet is a vacuum tube linestage preamplifier kit intended to deliver high-end audio performance with excellent sonic quality and ease of assembly for skilled DIYers. It uses a classic SRPP (Shunt Regulated Push-Pull) circuit topology that provides constant current plate loading and low output impedance without feedback, running in pure class-A single-ended mode. The design includes vacuum tube rectification for gentle turn-on and a DC heater supply for quiet, hum-free operation. The Clarinet kit includes a blank circuit board, drill guide, and instructions; other components must be sourced separately. The chassis is made from black anodized aluminum with wooden front and rear panels for mechanical damping and vibration control. Premium audiophile-grade components such as gold-plated RCA jacks and sockets, polypropylene capacitors, metal film resistors, and soft-recovery diodes are used throughout. The Clarinet is known for its linearity, low distortion, and low noise, making it a respected choice among tube linestage preamps.
