The Hafler DH-101 is a stereo active preamplifier introduced in 1978, designed with 28 transistors, 2 integrated circuits, 4 diodes, and 1 LED. It offers a frequency response of 20Hz to 20kHz, total harmonic distortion of 0.001%, and gain of 34dB for moving magnet (MM) phono input and 20dB for line input. The input sensitivity for MM is 10mV, with signal-to-noise ratios of 86dB (MM) and 90dB (line). The output level is 3V (pre out). The unit measures 350 x 82.5 x 215 mm and weighs 3.6 kg. It was mainly sold in kit form and is highly regarded for its zero coloration and precise sound, especially when properly built and maintained. The phono section is noted for its excellent capacity and low noise, making it ideal for high-quality vinyl playback. Modifications such as upgrading resistors to metal film and capacitors to polypropylene can further enhance its performance. The DH-101 is considered a classic 1980s preamplifier with a revealing sound, often paired with the Hafler DH-200 power amplifier for optimal results.
