About the 9180
The Hafler 9180 is a high-quality solid-state power amplifier designed for stereo and mono operation. It delivers 105 watts per channel into an 8 ohm load in stereo mode and can be bridged to provide 300 watts mono. The amplifier features a Soft Turn-On/Off system to prevent spurious noises during power transitions. Its input stage uses four low-noise, high transconductance JFETs in a fully complementary symmetric configuration, resulting in excellent headroom and ultra-low noise characteristics. The output stage employs multiple lateral MOSFETs, which have a negative temperature coefficient for improved thermal stability. Controls include power switch, left/right gain controls, and a mono/stereo switch. Inputs are right and left/mono RCA jacks. The amplifier is noted for its refined sound quality, with low distortion (less than 0.025% THD) and a wide frequency response from 0.3 Hz to 116 kHz. It has a signal-to-noise ratio greater than 100 dB (unweighted) and a damping factor of 300 to 1 kHz, 200 to 10 kHz. The 9180 is well-regarded for its solid, refined sound and reliability, often praised in vintage audio communities.
