About the Nightingale

The Nightingale is a moving-coil phono cartridge jointly developed by Graham Engineering and Immutable Music's Seiji Yoshioka, based on Immutable's yokeless ring-magnet generator principle where the coils sit inside a high-flux neodymium ring magnet with no conventional pole pieces. It was offered either as a stand-alone cartridge or as an integrated armwand/cartridge system pre-mounted and factory-aligned on a dedicated Graham armwand for 1.x and 2.x tonearms, with the arm leads soldered directly to the generator pins to minimize connection losses. The cartridge uses ultra-pure 5N silver coil wire specified and supplied by Graham, a carefully resonance-controlled aluminum-alloy body bonded to the generator for improved rigidity and damping, and a solid boron cantilever with a line-contact stylus, targeting very high clarity, definition, dynamics, and three-dimensional soundstage. The Nightingale II is a later, improved version with a refined stainless-steel generator support structure, higher output (around 0.45 mV) and low internal impedance (around 2.5 Ω), while retaining the same core ring-magnet architecture and premium materials. Custom rebuilds performed by specialist retippers have used similar 5N silver coils, boron cantilevers and advanced line-contact stylus profiles, sometimes tuned for approximately 0.2 mV output and ~2 Ω internal impedance, but these are not standard factory specifications.
