About the 1031A
The Genelec 1031A is a bi-amplified two-way active studio monitor designed for nearfield monitoring in professional studios, broadcast, and mobile setups. It features an 8" polypropylene-cone bass driver in a 15-liter vented enclosure and a 1" metal dome tweeter with Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW) technology for consistent frequency response and precise imaging. The system includes built-in active crossover filters at 2.2 kHz and dual 120 W amplifiers for bass and treble, providing a frequency response of 48 Hz to 22 kHz (±2.5 dB) and peak SPL over 120 dB at 1 meter. It offers versatile tone controls via DIP switches for treble, bass level, and bass rolloff to tailor sound to room acoustics. The enclosure is rugged aluminum to minimize resonance, and the speaker weighs 12.7 kg (28 lb) with dimensions 393 x 250 x 290 mm (15.5" x 9.9" x 11.4"). Produced from 1991 to 2005, the 1031A was highly regarded for its accuracy, clarity, and neutrality, winning awards such as M.I.P.A and "Best Gear of the 90s" by Pro Audio Review, and was inducted into the TECnology Hall of Fame in 2014. It is no longer manufactured and was succeeded by the Genelec 8050A model.
