The Genalex Gold Lion KT77 Modern is a current-production octal beam-power tetrode/output valve, made as a modern recreation of the classic British Genalex KT77. It is intended for audio-frequency power-amplifier output stages and is commonly used as a KT77 replacement and, where the amplifier manufacturer permits, an EL34/6CA7 substitute. Construction features reported for this model include heavy glass, ruggedized plates and gold-plated grid wire. It is sold singly or in matched pairs/quads; matched sets are selected for plate current and transconductance. Its published operating capability includes use as a pair in Class-AB1 for continuous output above 70 W, dependent on the amplifier circuit, supply voltages, load and bias. Substitute compatibility must be verified against the amplifier’s socket wiring, voltage limits and bias requirements; rebiasing may be required.
