The Fostex FE166En is a 160mm (6.5") full-range driver featuring an 8 ohm nominal impedance and a nominal power handling of 22 W, with a maximum program power of 65 W. It has a sensitivity of 94 dB/W (1m) and a frequency response from 53 Hz to 22 kHz. The diaphragm uses an ES cone made from fine, supple, high-density fibers that improve mid-high frequency reproduction. It employs a strong 110mm ferrite magnet and is optimized for use in back-loaded horn enclosures. The driver has a moving mass (Mms) of 6.8 g, a voice coil diameter of 25 mm, and a total weight of approximately 1.6 kg. The recommended baffle cutout diameter is 146 mm, with an overall diameter of 166 mm and a depth of about 75 mm. The FE166En is known for its bright, clear sound and is part of Fostex's FE-En series, which ranges from 8 cm to 20 cm units. It is generally unsuitable for bass reflex enclosures due to over-damping effects. The driver is discontinued but remains popular for DIY and audiophile projects.
