The Fosgate Signature Phono Stage Preamplifier is a high-end tube phono preamp designed by Jim Fosgate, known for its warm, detailed sound and exceptional low noise floor. It features all-tube amplification and rectification with no solid-state devices in the signal path, employing a unique power supply design where each tube stage is powered by separate oversized storage capacitors acting like batteries, ensuring rock-solid voltage and preventing signal leakage between stages. The RIAA equalization network is split into passive (above 1kHz) and active (below 1kHz) sections for precise frequency response. It offers selectable gain settings of 42dB for moving magnet (MM) cartridges and 60dB for moving coil (MC) cartridges, with variable resistive loading options from 100 ohms to 100k ohms. The preamplifier uses a push-pull SRPP configuration for low distortion and high linearity, and its industrial design includes blue LED tube illumination and real wood end caps. It is highly regarded for its purity of timbre, effortless soundstaging, and neutral yet musical tonal balance, making it competitive with much higher-priced units.
