About the CQ30
The Fons CQ30 is a transcription-quality belt-drive turntable featuring three speeds (33.33, 45, and 78 rpm), each individually and accurately adjustable over a range from 29 to 100 rpm. It uses a fully electronically controlled motor to eliminate dependence on mains power stability. The platter is a 300mm diameter high-mass precision component spinning on a hyper concentric main bearing developed through extensive research to minimize rumble. The turntable incorporates the FONS anti-feedback phase cancellation suspension system to reduce vibrations and feedback. It includes a heavy gauge smoked dust cover with self-support hinges and one-hand opening strip. The CQ30 weighs 8.6 kg and measures 444 x 349 x 156 mm. It was manufactured by Fergus Fons Ltd. in Maybole, Ayrshire, Scotland, and was priced at £75 plus VAT without a pickup arm in the mid-1970s.
