FR-64S

About the FR-64S

The FR-64S is Fidelity Research's heavyweight version of the FR-64 tonearm, engineered specifically for low-compliance moving-coil cartridges. It belongs to the FR-64 series and shares the same 245 mm effective length as other FR-64 variants, but uses a stainless steel arm tube and structure, giving it a much higher effective mass (around 35 g) than lighter aluminum designs such as the FR-64FX. This high mass, combined with a dynamic-balance downforce mechanism and precise anti-skating, makes the FR-64S well suited to very low-compliance cartridges and contributes to its reputation for stable tracking, powerful yet controlled bass, and excellent reproduction of space and ambience. The use of stainless steel throughout the arm is intended to reduce vibration compared with aluminum alloy, while the detachable headshell and finely engineered bearings support accurate setup and long-term durability.
