About the FR-64fx

The FR-64fx is the low-mass, dynamic-balanced member of Fidelity Research's FR-64 tonearm series, designed to work optimally with low to medium compliance moving-coil cartridges. It retains the basic construction concept of the heavier FR-64S but reduces effective mass to about 20g by using a de-oxidized aluminum arm tube and lighter counterweight system, making it suitable for cartridges with higher tracking ability compared with the original FR-64/64S. The arm uses precision radial ball bearings for both vertical and horizontal motion instead of conventional angular-contact bearings, in order to increase both sensitivity and rigidity. The headshell interface employs a collet-chuck style connector and a rigid key-bar headshell construction, improving mechanical stability and energy transfer between cartridge, headshell, and arm. Typical geometry is an effective length of 245mm, overhang of 15mm, offset angle around 21.5 degrees, and mounting distance roughly 230mm, consistent with other FR-64 series arms. Overall, the FR-64fx is a robust yet relatively low-mass tonearm intended to extract high performance from quality moving-coil cartridges while preserving the FR-64 series' reputation for precision engineering and build quality.
