About the ES11
The Epos ES11, introduced in 1990, is a compact two-way vented-box loudspeaker designed with a 6.5-inch cone woofer and a 1-inch dome tweeter, both custom designed by Epos. It aims to provide a balanced, high-quality sound with a focus on musical enjoyment rather than just hi-fi specifications. The woofer features a thermo-formed polymer cone with a synthetic rubber surround and a fixed phase plug to improve polar performance and reduce distortion. The tweeter uses an aluminum alloy dome, contributing to smooth and detailed high frequencies. The crossover is minimalist, employing a single capacitor for the tweeter, allowing the woofer to operate without external crossover circuitry for improved transparency. The cabinet is constructed from 25mm MDF with a natural wood veneer finish available in black ash or walnut, and features a rigid, resonant-free design with hard plastic front and rear panels. The ES11 supports bi-wiring with high-quality brass terminals. It is recommended for use with amplifiers rated between 25 and 75 watts into 8 ohms. The speaker is praised for its tonal purity, wide stereo imaging, and suitability for nearfield or smaller room listening. It weighs 8 kg and measures 375mm high, 200mm wide, and 250mm deep. The ES11 is no longer in production but remains highly regarded by audiophiles for its clarity and musicality.
