About the Epic 2
The Epos Epic 2 is a medium-sized two-way loudspeaker designed by Mike Creek's team in the UK and manufactured in China. It features a 7-inch (179mm) polypropylene cone mid/bass driver and a 1-inch (25mm) soft dome tweeter with a neodymium magnet and ferrofluid-cooled voice coil for high output and extended performance. The speaker has a frequency response of 48Hz to 25kHz, a sensitivity of 90dB, and a nominal impedance of 4 ohms. It is recommended for use with amplifiers rated between 20 and 120 watts. The cabinet is constructed from 18mm MDF with a rear-facing bass reflex port designed to enhance bass response while minimizing turbulence. The crossover uses second-order filters with high-quality components including metal-oxide resistors, polypropylene capacitors, air-core inductors for the tweeter, and a laminated iron-core inductor for the woofer. The speaker includes two pairs of gold-plated input terminals for bi-wiring. A unique feature is the removable front baffle that allows switching between a grille-covered or grille-less front, using a supplied tool, to optimize sound quality and aesthetics. The cabinet is finished in cherry or black ash vinyl veneer, measuring 415 x 210 x 280 mm and weighing 8.6 kg. The Epic 2 is praised for its balanced, detailed sound with a wide soundstage and precise imaging, making it suitable for both music listening and home cinema applications. It offers tight, powerful bass without overshadowing mids, and crisp, lively highs, delivering performance comparable to larger floorstanding speakers at a bookshelf speaker size and price point.
