About the 930st
The EMT 930st is a professional studio turntable introduced in the 1970s as a smaller brother to the legendary EMT 927. It features an idler-wheel drive system with three selectable speeds (33 1/3, 45, and 78 rpm) and a 33 cm diameter aluminum die-cast main platter with a Plexiglas sub-platter. The turntable weighs approximately 23 kg and is known for its rock-solid speed stability and minimal wow and flutter. It includes the EMT 929 tonearm, which is adjustable in height for vertical tracking angle (VTA) fine-tuning, and is compatible with various cartridges. The EMT 930st also comes with a built-in phono preamplifier module, often the EMT 155st solid-state amplifier, supporting multiple equalization standards including DIN, RIAA, and BBC. The unit is highly regarded for its sound quality, featuring a high signal-to-noise ratio, low distortion, and a massive, detailed sound signature. It is a fully manual turntable with no automatic functions, designed for professional and audiophile use. Despite its industrial appearance and heavy weight, it is considered by many vintage audio enthusiasts as one of the best turntables ever made. The EMT 930st remains sought after for its build quality and sonic performance, though it requires careful maintenance and occasional parts replacement due to its age.
