About the LFT-8b
The Eminent Technology LFT-8b is a full-range, push-pull dynamic planar loudspeaker hybrid that combines two individual driver panels for midrange and treble frequencies with an 8-inch acoustic suspension cone woofer for bass. The panels use a patented Linear Field Transducer (LFT) design, where a thin Mylar sheet coated with aluminum foil is etched with a spiral voice-coil pattern and suspended between two magnet arrays in a push-pull configuration, providing highly linear diaphragm motion and improved control compared to single-ended planar magnetic designs. The woofer is mounted in a truncated pyramid enclosure near the floor to enhance bass reinforcement. The speaker covers a frequency range of 25 Hz to 50 kHz ±4 dB, with crossover points at 180 Hz and 10 kHz. Sensitivity is 84 dB at 1 watt/1 meter, impedance nominally 8 ohms but averaging higher, making it suitable for amplifiers with at least 75 watts per channel. The LFT-8b features selectable tweeter output levels and bi-wiring capability. Dimensions are approximately 13 inches wide, 60 inches high, and 1 inch thick for the panel, with a total weight around 90.5 lbs per speaker. Available finishes include oak, walnut, and black painted oak. The design emphasizes clarity, transparency, and a spacious soundstage with well-defined instrument separation and fast, agile bass response. It has a 3-year parts and 1-year labor warranty. The LFT-8b has been in production for over three decades and is regarded as a unique hybrid speaker combining the best attributes of electrostatic and planar magnetic technologies without their typical drawbacks.
