About the AW180
The Electrocompaniet AW180 is a monaural Class AB power amplifier designed to unlock the full potential of high-end audio systems. It delivers 250 watts into 8 ohms, 380 watts into 4 ohms, and 625 watts into 2 ohms, with a maximum peak current exceeding 100 amperes. The amplifier employs Floating Transformer Technology (FTT) to reduce noise and interference while increasing current output. It features a massive 650W toroidal transformer and 60,000 µF buffer electrolytic capacitors, ensuring ample power reserves and excellent dynamic headroom. The input stage operates in Class A, separated from the Class AB output stage with parallel feedback, minimizing distortion and eliminating back-EMF effects from speaker voice coils. The AW180 has balanced XLR inputs with 110 kOhm impedance and RCA inputs with 220 kOhm impedance, with an input sensitivity of 1 V for rated output. It supports bi-amping via a LINK XLR output and has four speaker binding posts. The amplifier's chassis includes a proprietary 20 mm thick acrylic front panel and weighs 22 kg. It is praised for its natural timbre, exceptional transient clarity, and ability to drive current-hungry speakers with a large-scale soundstage and excellent image focus. The AW180 requires pairing with a suitable preamplifier to achieve optimal sound quality and is noted for its powerful, clean, and dynamic sound signature.
