About the 834P (GNSC Modded)
The EAR 834P is a tube phono preamplifier designed by Tim de Paravicini, featuring three ECC83 tubes and a toroidal power transformer. It supports both moving magnet (MM) and moving coil (MC) cartridges, with 48dB gain for MM and 70dB for MC inputs. The MC input uses real audio input transformers for low noise matching. The unit is compact, robustly built, and available with or without a front-panel volume control. The design emphasizes simplicity and musicality, delivering detailed inner detail, agile transient response, and a wide, holographic soundstage. The GNSC modification further improves the sound by tightening bass and extending frequency extremes, enhancing the overall openness and musicality of the preamplifier. The 834P was produced from 1997 to 2003 and remains highly regarded in audiophile circles.
