About the Acute III
Designed by Tim de Paravicini, the Acute III CD player and DAC combines sophisticated digital processing with analog purity. It uses the latest Wolfson DAC chip capable of upsampling to 24-bit/192kHz and offers three digital inputs: USB, coaxial S/PDIF, and optical Toslink. Unlike many digital players, it employs analog filters and a transformer-coupled tube output stage, providing a unique sonic signature with rich, holographic sound and excellent vocal reproduction. The unit includes both balanced (XLR) and single-ended (RCA) analog outputs and an analog front-panel volume control with enough gain to drive a power amplifier directly, bypassing a preamplifier if desired. The Acute III is praised for its realistic, intensely musical digital reproduction, superb bass power and focus, and state-of-the-art performance that challenges much more expensive player/DAC combos. It is available in black or chrome finishes and weighs approximately 17.6 lbs (8 kg).
