About the C844
The Dual C-844 is a high-quality 3-head stereo cassette tape deck manufactured in Japan between 1981 and 1984. It features a two-speed (4.75 and 9.5 cm/s) dual-capstan mechanism with two motors, allowing for standard and double-speed recording and playback. The deck supports all common tape types including Normal (Type I), CrO2 (Type II), FeCr (Type III), and Metal (Type IV) tapes. It includes Dolby B and Dolby C noise reduction systems and an MPX filter for FM stereo broadcast recording. The deck has a direct load and lock cassette mechanism with infrared light barriers for automatic tape stop and playback restart. It also features a transparent head cover that opens automatically when powered on, adjustable headphone jacks, and two microphone inputs. The unit comes with a rare infrared remote control system. The frequency response extends up to 24 kHz at double speed, with a signal-to-noise ratio up to 78 dB (Dolby C, Metal tape). Dimensions are 440 x 112 x 355 mm, and it weighs 9 kg.
