About the 1229
The Dual 1229 is a high-end automatic turntable manufactured by Dual in Germany from 1972 to 1975. It supports manual, single-play, and multi-play (up to 6 records) operation with speeds of 33 1/3, 45, and 78 rpm. Key features include a mode selector that adjusts the tonearm base height for accurate vertical tracking angle (15 degrees in multi-play on third record), extra-long torsionally rigid metal tonearm (effective length 222 mm), illuminated neon stroboscope adjustable for 50/60 Hz, pitch control (±6% or one semitone), anti-skating, silicone oil damped cueing, and synchronous continuous-pole motor with radial elastic suspension. The platter is a non-magnetic die-cast aluminum, 305 mm diameter, 3.1 kg dynamically balanced. Outputs via stereo 5-pin DIN plug. Originally No longer manufactured.
