About the DL-103R

The Denon DL-103R is an updated version of the classic and venerable Denon DL-103, first introduced for broadcast use in the early 1960s. This moving coil cartridge extends the capabilities of its progenitor by using 99.9999% high purity (6N) copper coils wound with precision to the cantilever shaft. The DL-103R retains the smooth sound and excellent detail-retrieval of the historic design while offering improved performance through modern refinements. Hand-wound at the Denon Audio Works Factory in Japan, each unit is individually measured for correct frequency response with a print-out included in the box. The cartridge is known as one of the high-end's best bargains, offering serious audio performance at a fraction of the cost of five-figure alternatives. Its low compliance makes it easier to implement in most modern tonearms, and it is not fussy about setup. The DL-103R possesses a tonal balance that is slightly on the warm/romantic side, giving vinyl playback extra tonal richness while maintaining excellent detail retrieval.
