About the Terminator II

The Denafrips Terminator II is a full-size, discrete-resistor, balanced NOS/OS digital-to-analog converter. It uses Denafrips’ proprietary R-2R-plus-DSD architecture: a true-balanced 26-bit R-2R ladder for PCM and a 6-bit DSD section with 32-step FIR filtering. Key construction features include matched 0.005% thin-film resistor networks, FPGA-based digital processing, adaptive FIFO buffering/reclocking, OCXO master clocks, high-speed digital isolation, separate substantial power supplies for digital and analog sections, and a dual-mono-style balanced analog output stage. It accepts USB, three I²S variants, dual AES/EBU, coaxial S/PDIF, and optical S/PDIF, with both RCA and XLR analog outputs. The name is sometimes used for the original Terminator II and the later Terminator II 12th Anniversary version; published figures can vary slightly by production revision and firmware.
