About the 224
The DBX 224 is a stereo noise reduction unit featuring two channels of encoding and decoding, enabling simultaneous recording and off-tape monitoring of stereo programs. It uses the DBX Type II noise reduction system to achieve more than 30 dB broadband tape noise reduction and a 10 dB improvement in headroom during tape recording. The unit can also decode special DBX encoded phonograph discs, which offer up to 40 dB less noise than conventional discs and enhanced musical dynamic range. It is fully compatible with other DBX Type II units (120 and 140 series) but not with DBX Type I professional equipment due to signal processing differences. The DBX 224 significantly improves live tape recording quality and preserves quality when copying previously recorded programs. It is designed primarily for domestic use with RCA connectors and does not reduce noise on conventional records or tapes recorded without DBX processing. The unit measures 437 x 440 x 179 mm, weighs 4.75 lbs, and has a total harmonic distortion of 0.5%.
