The dbx 223XL is a high-quality professional audio crossover designed for stereo 2-way or mono 3-way operation. It features balanced XLR inputs and outputs that are screwed directly to the chassis for durability. The unit includes Linkwitz-Riley 24 dB/octave state-variable filters, which are the professional standard for crossovers. It offers adjustable crossover frequencies with a x10 range switch, allowing low/high or low/mid/mid/high frequency splits from 45 Hz to 9.6 kHz. The 223XL has input gain controls, output gain controls ranging from -infinity to +6 dB for level matching and muting, and phase reverse switches on outputs that can be internally reconfigured as mute switches. It also includes a recessed 40 Hz low cut filter on each channel. The unit is rack-mountable (1U height) and powered by an internal high-quality power supply, eliminating the need for an external adapter. It provides excellent audio performance with a bandwidth of 20 Hz to 20 kHz (+0/-0.5 dB), frequency response from under 3 Hz to over 90 kHz (+0/-3 dB), dynamic range over 114 dB unweighted, very low distortion (<0.004% THD+N at +4 dBu), and interchannel crosstalk below -80 dB.
