About the TF12
The David Berning Co TF-12 is a high-end all-tube preamplifier measuring 19" x 3.5" x 13" and weighing 11 pounds. It includes one phono input, four high-level inputs, and one tape input, with two sets of outputs wired in parallel. The signal path uses one 12AX7, one 12AT7 (for phono and tape out), and two 6DJ8 tubes per channel. It features a Teflon audio circuit board inside a non-magnetic chassis and an 80-dB stepped attenuator volume control with digital control, allowing precise volume and channel balance adjustments. The TF-12 is praised for its ability to convey very soft dynamics, create a large and detailed soundstage, and reveal previously hidden recording details with very low noise and no harshness. It has an output impedance of 3k ohms, max input of 200mV at 1kHz for phono and 9V for high level, max output of 6V, and harmonic distortion of 0.03% for 2nd and 3rd harmonics and 0.002% for 4th and 5th harmonics. The The design incorporates Berning's screen drive technology to reduce tube idle current and extend tube life.
