About the EA230
The David Berning EA-230 is an all-tube dual 30-watt stereo power amplifier designed with ZOTL (Zero Output Transformer Logic) technology. It delivers faithful amplification with high reliability and allows automatic biasing of various tube combinations. The amplifier operates in Class A with a power consumption ranging from 60 to 160 watts. It features strap-selected output impedances of 4, 8, or 16 ohms and a frequency response of 5 Hz to 60 kHz (+0, -3 dB). The EA-230 is housed in a standard 19-inch rack mount chassis measuring 19 inches wide, 5-1/4 inches high, and 8-1/2 inches deep. It is known for its low noise floor, cool operation, constant output impedance, and tight regulation. An upgrade to automatic bias is available, and a mobile 12-volt battery-powered version called the Liquid is also offered. The amplifier is noted for extending tube life and controlling output-transformer saturation due to its low idle current design. Repairs and biasing should only be performed by experienced technicians due to the presence of dangerous high voltages.
