The Dan D'Agostino Progression M550 Monoblock Amplifier is a second-generation high-performance amplifier known for its remarkable power output and exquisite musical finesse. It delivers 550 watts into 8 ohms, 1,100 watts into 4 ohms, and 2,200 watts into 2 ohms. The amplifier features a new heat sink design milled from a single 48.5-pound aluminum billet slab, improving cooling efficiency and reliability. It employs the Super Rail topology, which boosts voltage in the input stage for exceptional headroom and nearly ideal output stage operation. The amplifier uses 48 power transistors, a 2,000 VA power supply transformer, and nearly 100,000 microfarads of power supply storage capacitance. Major revisions to the input topology improve distortion, signal-to-noise ratio, channel separation, and bandwidth. New transistors handle six times the power of previous components, and DC coupling circuitry enhances low-frequency performance and bandwidth. The Class A operating range is increased to 70 watts, improving instrumental timbre and tonal reproduction. The audio path is discrete, balanced, and direct coupled, with advanced protection techniques. The iconic 180° meter needle is driven by a high-speed ballistic circuit for responsiveness and covers the amplifier's entire output range.
