About the DQ-1W
The Dahlquist DQ-1W is a passive subwoofer produced from the early 1970s to early 1980s. It features a 13-inch SEAS 33 F-WK DQ woofer with an injection molded aluminum alloy chassis, edge-coated paper cone with rubber surround, and an inversely mounted paper dust cap. The subwoofer is designed as an acoustic suspension low bass module to complement Dahlquist DQ-10 speakers, providing tight, well-defined low-frequency response down to 20 Hz and below. It is intended for use with passive or active Dahlquist crossovers such as the DQ-MX1 or DQ-LP1. The cabinet is finished in oiled walnut with satin aluminum trim, weighing about 59 lbs (27 kg) and measuring approximately 26.4" H x 18.5" W x 13.8" D (67 x 47 x 35 cm). The DQ-1W is not a modern ported subwoofer but rather a collector's piece aimed at assembling a cohesive Dahlquist system. It has a nominal impedance of 8 ohms, nominal power rating of 70 W (DIN 45573), music power of 120 W (DIN 45500), sensitivity of 93 dB SPL, operating power of 2.0 W, and a free air resonance of 22 Hz. The subwoofer is often paired with the Dahlquist DQ-MX1 passive matrix crossover, which features selectable crossover frequencies (60 or 80 Hz), phase correction switch, and three sound levels. The DQ-1W has been restored in some cases with reconed drivers and recapped crossovers to maintain performance.
