About the Ulysses
The Daedalus Audio Ulysses Reference is a flagship floorstanding speaker known for its exceptional musicality, efficiency, and craftsmanship. It incorporates six drivers per enclosure: two 1" Eton dome tweeters, two 5" custom-modified Fostex full-range midrange drivers, and two proprietary 8" Daedalus woofers made in the USA. The cabinet is constructed from solid hardwood with dovetail joints and 1 1/4" Baltic birch, available in finishes such as Cherry, Walnut, Maple, Quartersawn White Oak, or Ebonized. The design features nonparallel side walls and three aperiodic bass ports arranged triangularly near the bottom, which can be oriented inward or outward to optimize bass response depending on room acoustics. The speaker has a sensitivity of approximately 97-98 dB (1W/1m) and can handle 8 to 600 watts per channel. A rear tweeter level switch allows adjustment of the tweeter output by -1 dB, flat, or +1 dB to tailor treble presence without listener fatigue. The crossover network is hand-built by Guy Veralrud, ensuring stable impedance, flat frequency response, and musical tonality. Internal wiring uses silver-coated copper, and all connectors are gold-plated and silver-soldered. The Ulysses is praised for its lifelike dynamics, precise imaging, natural tonality, and low listener fatigue, making it suitable for small to midsize rooms and a variety of amplifier types including SET and Class A solid-state. Each pair is individually handcrafted in the USA, emphasizing both sonic performance and elegant aesthetics. The speaker weighs about 115 pounds each and measures approximately 49" H x 11" W x 16" D.
