About the FM-1
The Crown FM-1 is a professional-grade FM stereo tuner introduced around 1979 by Crown International, known for its robust construction and high-quality components. It features a 6-gang tuning section with 3 ceramic filters and one SAW filter, similar to those used in high-end Kenwood tuners of the era. The tuner uses quadrature detection with a CA/LM3189 IC and includes variable outputs with independent left and right channel controls, a mute adjustment, and multi-path outputs. The ceramic filters are socketed for easy replacement. The FM-1 is housed in a wooden bookshelf-style case and weighs approximately 7 kg (15.4 lbs). It covers the FM broadcast band from 88.1 to 107.9 MHz with a signal-to-noise ratio of 65 dB. The build quality and controls are considered to be of military or laboratory specification, making it a durable and reliable tuner. Originally
