About the JMAS MIT-1 LOMC
The JMAS MIT-1 cartridge was manufactured by Coral Audio Corp. of Japan to JMAS specifications, incorporating a van den Hul stylus obtained from Fritz Gyger Co., Switzerland, mounted on a beryllium cantilever. It features a unique 'Mirror Image Transducer' design intended to reduce distortion. The cartridge weighs 5.5 grams and is recommended for use with light to medium mass tonearms, such as the SME III damped arm. It has a tracking force of 2 grams with a tolerance of +0.25 grams. The output voltage is low at 0.25 mV (rms at 5 cm/sec peak velocity), necessitating a step-up transformer with an input impedance of 5 ohms or less. Channel separation is better than 30 dB with azimuth adjustment under 1.5 degrees, and channel balance is within 1 dB at 1 kHz. Frequency response is excellent, with a slight high-frequency rise above 6 kHz, and the cartridge exhibits a low lateral resonance around 8 Hz. The stylus assembly is not user-replaceable and comes with mounting hardware and a stylus guard. The cartridge was introduced in the early 1980s and is no longer in production.
