About the Beta 8
The Coral Beta 8 is a highly regarded full-range speaker driver featuring a specially treated paper membrane reinforced with polymer fibers, a copper-coated aluminum voice coil, and a unique star-shaped phase plug. It has an 8-ohm impedance, a sensitivity around 94-95 dB/W/m, and a rated power of 30W to 35W depending on the production version. The driver has a ferrite magnet system and a 25mm voice coil diameter. It was manufactured in Japan from approximately 1970 to 1985 and is known for its fast, efficient sound with a frequency response extending from about 37-42 Hz up to 20 kHz. The Beta 8 is suitable for back-loaded horn applications and can be used in vented or bass reflex enclosures with some equalization to tame brightness in the treble. It weighs about 3.3 kg and has mounting dimensions suitable for flat mounting with a prominent frame. The driver gained legendary status in audiophile circles for its unique sound and build quality.
