About the PV10A

The Conrad-Johnson PV10A is an all-tube, zero-feedback full-function preamplifier with a moving-magnet phono stage and multiple line-level inputs, derived from the design concepts of the Premier Seven. Both phono and line sections use zero-feedback tube circuits, with the PV10A revision employing a revised line stage based on 12AU7 tubes. Inputs typically include Phono, Tuner, CD, Video, Aux, and a Tape loop with monitor/record facilities. Front-panel controls provide source selector, tape/source monitor, balance (deleted in later PV10A production), volume, and power, along with an automatic time-delay muting circuit to suppress warm-up transients. The phono section offers approximately 48.5 dB of gain and RIAA equalization accuracy of about ±0.25 dB from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, while the line stage provides about 18 dB of gain with wide bandwidth from roughly 2 Hz to beyond 100 kHz and low distortion under 0.1%. The line stage is phase inverting at the main outputs, while the phono section itself is phase correct at tape out. The PV10A uses a complement of small-signal dual-triode tubes (12AX7, 12AT7, and 12AU7 types, depending on production/version) in a compact chassis approximately 16" W x 3.75" H x 11" D and weighing about 12 lbs. This model is no longer in current production and is listed as a vintage product by Conrad-Johnson.
