About the MF2500A
The Conrad-Johnson MF2500A is a high-performance solid-state stereo power amplifier from the MF series, featuring a hybrid circuit design with FETs in the input gain stage for low odd-order harmonics and bipolar transistors in the output stage for superior bass response and low output impedance. It succeeded earlier models like the MF2250 and was part of a lineup including the MF2550, praised for its musicality, grip, and control. The amplifier uses high-current Sanken power transistors, runs class-A/B with low idle power, and includes a heavy transformer, finned heatsink, single-ended RCA inputs, 5-way binding posts, and thermal protection. Measurements confirm robust power delivery, good load tolerance up to 4 ohms and peaks into 2 ohms, with a tube-like harmonic distortion profile. Production has been discontinued, with Conrad-Johnson shifting focus to tube designs.
