About the 12D
The Commonwealth Electronics 12D, produced by Commonwealth Electronics Pty. Ltd. in Hobart, Tasmania, was the company's last and most popular model, designed for professional broadcast use with microgroove and stereo recordings. It features a 12-inch platter, idler wheel drive with solenoid engagement for flat-free operation, and neutral positions between speeds for easy cueing. Built for long-term continuous use, it remained in production into the 1970s after Philips takeover in 1966. The company ceased operations around 1966.
