About the Super Eclipse

The Coincident Speaker Technology Super Eclipse is a high-sensitivity, floorstanding loudspeaker designed by Israel Blume, specified with a frequency response of 28 Hz to 35 kHz, nominal impedance of 14 ohms that never drops below 10 ohms, and sensitivity of 92 dB at 1 m with 1 W input, making it well suited to single-ended triode and other low-power tube amplifiers as well as appropriate solid-state amplification. It uses a D'Appolito (MTM) front baffle with a 1" titanium-dome tweeter flanked by two 5" midrange drivers (polypropylene in the Eclipse, upgraded to magnesium cones in the Super Eclipse), plus dual 8" treated-paper side-firing woofers in mirror-imaged enclosures for improved room interaction and reduced diffraction. The cabinet is a narrow, medium-height, relatively deep enclosure measuring 42" (H) × 8" (W) × 16" (D) and weighing roughly 92 lb each, constructed as a non-resonant enclosure tuned to a high fundamental resonance around 350 Hz to minimize coloration and enhance tonal purity. A first-order crossover network (computer-aided design, premium passive parts, hard-wired, tightly toleranced components) is used, with low crossover points into the woofers and asymmetrical, narrow-baffle driver placement to reduce lobing and diffraction while preserving phase coherence. Reviews consistently highlight holographic imaging, wide and deep soundstaging, smooth and linear midrange, delicate and detailed highs, tight and coherent bass, and overall tonal balance and dynamic impact, and note that the Super Eclipse pairs exceptionally well with triode tube amplifiers while also performing strongly with select solid-state amps. Typical finishes include real wood veneers such as cherry, and bi-wiring capability has been offered or available as an option on some Coincident floorstanding models.
