About the Dynamo 34SE
The Coincident Dynamo 34SE is a compact, high-quality SET amplifier delivering 8 watts per channel using EL34 tubes wired in triode mode. It features a simple audio circuit with a 6SL7 dual-triode voltage gain stage and a tube-rectified power supply. The amplifier has a polished stainless steel chassis with a thick aluminum faceplate, measuring approximately 9.5" x 7" x 12.5" and weighing 30 pounds in the Mk II version. It offers an input impedance of 100k ohms and a frequency response of 20Hz to 20kHz ±1dB. The Dynamo 34SE Mk II improved upon the original with a beefed-up power transformer, better power supply filtering, and a 5AR4 rectifier for gentler startup and increased reliability. It has a signal-to-noise ratio of 92dB, exceptional for a tube amplifier, and drives speakers with 96dB sensitivity easily. The volume control is a 100k-ohm pot allowing direct passive connection to sources. The amplifier also includes a robust headphone section capable of driving both high and low impedance headphones with clarity and deep bass. The Dynamo 34SE is praised for its resolution, tonal color gradations, and dynamic soundstage, competing well with amplifiers costing twice as much. It is noted for its quiet operation and compact footprint, though the volume knob placement between tubes may require some adjustment. The amplifier
